The long queues for investigation can be seen throughout the country.

Last year, there were 7,000 children in the queue and 1,600 of them received an investigation within a month.

This year until September, roughly 10,000 are in the queue and 1,900 have received help.

"Like walking on hot coals"

This summer, the care decided that Marie Madsen's son, who is in middle school, should be investigated for a neuropsychiatric diagnosis.

Several months have now passed and she has yet to hear anything.

- Just the waiting itself is like walking on hot coals, not knowing when it will happen, she says.

And Marie and her son are not alone.

In October this year, 481 children are waiting in line for an examination at Södra Älvsborg Hospital and have been waiting longer than a month, that is, the enhanced care guarantee that exists for child and youth psychiatry.

Clear trend throughout the country

And Södra Älvsborg Hospital is not unique.

In the region, just under 20 percent receive an investigation within the so-called enhanced care guarantee.

Throughout the country, development is going in the wrong direction.

Marie Madsen in Mark is now tired of waiting.

She is worried that her son will end up crooked if he doesn't get help in time.

- I am worried that he will end up with drugs, alcohol and self-harming behaviour.
