Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani said that his country will not forget the security support provided by Tehran during the last period, and pledged not to allow any political or military faction to attack Iran from Iraqi territory.

Al-Sudani, who earlier started an official visit to Iran, stressed the importance of cooperation between the two countries in various political, economic and security aspects.

"We will not allow any political or military formations to launch operations against Iran from our lands," he said.

He added that Iraq will not forget the security support provided by Iran since 2003, and "we will continue our cooperation with the Iranian side in the field of combating terrorism," explaining that he agreed with the Iranians to activate the work of the Iraqi-Iranian joint economic committee as soon as possible.

For his part, Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi said that the foreign military presence increases the problems of the region, "and foreign forces must be removed from it."

In a press conference with his Iraqi guest, Raisi stressed that security and stability in the region are of common concern to Tehran and Baghdad, "and we will continue to cooperate in the field of combating terrorism," stressing that his country's relations with Iraq are "rooted and deep."

He stated that Iran and Iraq cooperate in the cultural, political, social and security fields, expressing his hope to raise the level of relations between the two countries under the new Iraqi government.

The Iraqi Prime Minister arrived in the Iranian capital, Tehran, earlier today, Tuesday, at the head of a high-level delegation.

Al-Sudani's visit to Tehran is the third that he has made outside the country since he took office more than a month ago, as he visited Jordan and Kuwait during the past few days.
