When the U.S. national soccer team raised an Iranian flag with the 'Islamic pattern' posted on its social media account, Iran protested that it would file a complaint with the FIFA Ethics Committee.

According to foreign media such as AP, NPR, and Reuters today (28th), the US national soccer team posted a randomly modified image of the Iranian flag on social media on the 26th, posting the 2022 Qatar World Cup Group B leaderboard.

Originally, the Iranian flag had horizontal stripes of green, white, and red, with a red pattern meaning the Islamic Republic in the center.

A post containing a modified Iranian flag was posted on social media such as Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook of the US national soccer team.

Then, the Iranian side immediately protested, saying, "I deleted the name of God."

The Iranian Football Association said through the Associated Press that "the actions of the United States are in violation of the rules of the FIFA competition," and that "the matter will be investigated through the FIFA Ethics Committee, and the United States must be held accountable."

In response, the American Football Association released a statement on the 27th, saying it was "to show support for Iranian women fighting for basic human rights," adding, "This post has no connection to the players."

Afterwards, the U.S. national soccer team deleted the related post,

Meanwhile, in Iran in September, anti-government protests continued after Mahsa Amini, a university student, was arrested and killed for not wearing a hijab properly.

The Iranian national team also refused to sing the national anthem against England on the 22nd, expressing its intention to solidarity with the anti-government protests in the country.
