“I thought about the trip, but I decided this: if I go, I will go to Moscow and Kyiv, both cities, not just one of the two,” the pontiff said.

He recalled that he was working on lists of "prisoners, both civilian prisoners and prisoners of war."

“And I sent them to the Russian government, and the response was always very positive,” said the Pope.

Russian Ambassador to the Vatican Alexander Avdeev said earlier that Pope Francis is helping in the exchange of prisoners between Russia and Ukraine.

The Pope also proposed holding talks between Russia and the West on a Ukrainian settlement in the Vatican.
