About 2,500 people gathered this Saturday on a famous beach in Sydney (Australia) as part of an artistic installation intended to raise awareness about skin cancer.

Originality of the approach: all the participants were completely naked.

Bondi Beach thus became a nudist beach at dawn.

The 2,500 volunteers of all ages and in the simplest form posed for American photographer Spencer Tunick, who gave them instructions over the loudspeaker from a raised platform.

The artist shared videos of this unusual moment on his Instagram account.

The event, dubbed “Strip Off for Skin Cancer” was organized in collaboration with an association which encourages Australians to have regular examinations by a dermatologist.

The number of participants roughly equals the number of Australians who die each year from skin cancer.

"I spent half my life in the sun and had two malignant melanomas removed from my back," said one of the volunteers, 77.

“I thought it was a good cause.

Spencer Tunick is known for his massive stripteases staged at high-profile venues around the world.

He notably undressed more than 5,000 people in front of the Sydney Opera House in 2010, and 18,000 people – his record – on the Zocalo in Mexico City in 2007.
