The Héroes de Yungay school is geographically located in the town of the same name, in the commune of La Granja.

This region (the Metropolitan Region) has a high social vulnerability and this educational center is an exponent of the inequality of Chilean education.

91% of its 202 students are at risk of exclusion, which is why ProFuturo has designated it as one of its priority schools in the South American country.

The digital education program promoted by Fundación Telefónica and Fundación "la Caixa" arrived at La Granja in 2021. "We are a vulnerable school, with few resources. Having a tablet is wonderful for them, and for us too. Being a school As a public, we don't have resources that come like this easily, so this contribution from Profuturo has been wonderful," reveals Elizabet Olivares, a teacher at Los Héroes de Yungay school, to EFE.

At the moment, the implementation of the ProFuturo program is still in process in this small school in Santiago de Chile.

Teachers are working autonomously, with rapid learning in the use of the different digital resources provided by the initiative.

Various digital devices have also been distributed among teachers and students.

"It's something friendlier, the kids in general tell me that it's like playing and learning. They are much more immersed and that also makes my work easier because I don't have to be aware," Olivares, one of the 16 teachers, points out to EFE. who teach at this school.

ProFuturo in Chile

This school in Santiago de Chile is one of the 233 public and private centers in 8 regions in which ProFuturo participates in Chile.

The program, present in the country since 2018, has reached agreements with several partners such as the Ministry of Education, the Directorate of Public Education, universities and public and private educational institutions, among others, in order to extend the benefits of the program.

In addition, it is a pioneer in the development of a Virtual Classroom that provides synchronous (distance) learning experiences in subjects such as artificial intelligence, programming and robotics.

"It is impressive to see that digital education greatly favors equal opportunities in the most remote places on the planet," Magdalena Brier, general director of ProFuturo, told EFE.

Chile is one of the 40 countries in Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa and Asia in which this program is present, which began in 2016. In these 6 years, nearly 23.4 million boys and girls have benefited and more have been trained of 1.1 million teachers.

ProFuturo thus works for equal opportunities for children, contributing to the fulfillment of point 4 of the Sustainable Development Goals for the United Nations 2030 Agenda: "Guarantee inclusive, equitable and quality education, promoting learning opportunities during lifetime".

Its intervention in this country is based on the Comprehensive Model and the Massive Open Model of Digital Education, through which ProFuturo provides its platform and learning resources, as well as teacher training and support and, when necessary, technological equipment for improve and democratize educational teaching regardless of where you were born.

"The benefits of this hybrid, holistic method, which mixes technology and traditional face-to-face teaching, are evident and almost immediate," concludes Brier to EFE.
