“The leadership and staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation deeply mourn the untimely death on November 26 of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Vladimir Vladimirovich Makei,” the ministry said in a statement.

The Russian Foreign Ministry called Makei an outstanding diplomat and statesman who was a true friend of Russia and made a unique contribution to the comprehensive development of broad bilateral cooperation and the construction of the Union State.

Earlier it was reported that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Vladimir Makei died.

The Russian Embassy in Minsk called Makei's death an irreparable loss.
