Clashes and incidents took place today in Brussels, immediately after the end of the Belgium-Morocco match of the World Cup, staged in Qatar.

This was reported by "L'Equipe", which quotes the local police, according to which several people have ruined the street furniture and attacked the police forces.

Even before the end of the match, in the center of the city, "dozens of people, some of them hooded, had sought a confrontation", added the police, denouncing the use of fireworks, bullets and sticks.

There was a fire on the street and a traffic light was destroyed.

"A journalist was injured in the face by fireworks", specified the Police, who had to intervene, to calm the spirits, with water cannons and tear gas.

Some images of the clashes were published on Twitter by the European Commissioner for the Economy, Paolo Gentiloni, who wrote, commenting on the video: "Looting and violence. Football acts as a detonator".

The celebrations in Brussels for the victory of Morocco against Belgium (2-0) at the World Cup in Qatar have degenerated into clashes with the police.

The violence, with the destruction of at least one car and several rental scooters, took place in the city center area, between Lemonnier and Place Bourse.

About a hundred anti-riot officers intervened on the spot, using water cannons and tear gas to disperse the crowd (over 150 present).

The mobs threw stones and firecrackers at the police.

At least one journalist was injured, according to local media reports.

For reasons of public safety, the metro stations of Beekkant, Sainte-Catherine, De Brouckére and Gare Centrale had already been closed.
