On October 12, 2015, the Palestinian occupation forces arrested Ahmed Manasra, a resident of the town of Beit Hanina, north of Jerusalem, when he was 13 years and nine months old, after they shot him with their weapons, wounding him immediately.

Ahmed was transferred to the “Al-Maskoubiya” detention center in the Holy City, despite his need to complete his treatment period, to be taken for investigation by the Israeli intelligence service, while he was groaning from the pain of his injury. After that, he appears as a child before the Israeli courts, which sentenced him to 12 years in prison and a fine. The amount of (180) thousand shekels, and thus spends the innocent years of his life inside the occupation detention centers.

Seven years have passed since Ahmed became a young boy, and he left his childhood shackled in the corners of small cells, which restricted his great childhood dreams, and even annihilated them from the very first place, so he no longer had innocent images in his memory that he would later pass on to other generations to come.

lost childhood

Examining the details of the story of the Palestinian prisoner, Ahmed Manasra, confirms the violation of the rights of the children of the occupied lands. In all the cities of Palestine, International Children’s Day, corresponding to November 20, cannot pass like the rest of the world, without leaving a dark picture inside every Palestinian house and leaving its young as a martyr, or excommunicating. He is a prisoner, or sustained long-term wounds, as a result of arbitrary Israeli practices that do not differentiate between a young child or an old man.

"Emirates Today" met Ahmed Manasra, the uncle of the prisoner Ahmed, to describe his tragedy behind bars, saying, "He spent his childhood years inside Israeli detention centers, deprived of childhood rights legislated by the laws of the whole world, far from the tenderness of the father and mother, stripped of his right to play, learn and practice his hobbies. and achieve his dreams.”

He adds, "The prisoner Ahmed, when the occupation authorities arrested him, was a child, and he is still living through childhood, especially since he suffered a severe psychological relapse, which exacerbated his suffering inside the detention centers, especially when he was denied for long periods of his family's visits to him inside the prisons."

Manasra points out that his nephew faces arbitrary measures by the occupation, as the Israeli Prison Service administration often steals the money we deposit for him in the prison canteen, which is known as the “cantina”, under false pretexts, which are “sanctions.”

The uncle of the prisoner Manasra says, “Ahmed has been living for more than a year and a half in solitary confinement (the cell), while he appeared before the Israeli court to extend his isolation for another six months, and the occupation rejected a request we submitted for his early release, within a law called (one-third of the detention period ) Many times".

Dreams behind bars

Ahmed Manasra is not the only child shackled by Israeli restrictions. Behind the bars of Damon, Ofer and Megiddo detention centers are 170 Palestinian children, including three girls and five minors, in administrative detention, which holds the prisoner for long periods without charge or court ruling, according to a spokesman for the Commission. Prisoners Affairs Hassan Abd Rabbo.

Abed Rabbo told "Emirates Today", in an exclusive interview, "This year has witnessed, since its inception, the occupation forces intensified operations targeting Palestinian children, by pursuing their father and arresting them. The number of those arrested by Israel until November reached (800) children arbitrarily from various Palestinian governorates." Including Jerusalem, whose children are subjected to abuse, house arrest, and detention in centers for young detainees.”

And he adds, “The occupation deliberately abused children and practiced sadism against them inside the detention centers, as they are subjected to ill-treatment through naked and provocative searches, and imposing penalties against them, by preventing parents from visiting them at times, depriving them of (the cantina) and going out to Al-Fura Square, and imposing financial fines as measures.” Punitive punishments from the Israeli Prison Service, in addition to toughening penalties and sentences against child prisoners, and imposing financial fines against them as collective punitive measures.

A spokesman for the Commission for Palestinian Prisoners Affairs confirms the negligence of the Israeli prison administration to provide the necessary medical care and treatment for the children of the prisoners, whether sick or wounded, who were exposed to direct fire from the Israeli forces during the process of pursuing and arresting them.

He points out that Palestinian children who are imprisoned are deprived of psychological and counseling care inside prisons, indicating that this exacerbates the psychological, neurological and health problems of children who are deprived of their childhood and their right to play, freedom and education behind bars.

Annihilation of innocence

Moving from behind bars that exhausted the innocence of Omar al-Zuhur, and spread the scourge of separation within the homes of their relatives, hundreds of homes in various parts of Palestine are inhabited by the pain of separation from their young children, who perished as a result of brutal murders and extermination at the hands of the Israeli forces.

The months of this year recorded records proving that the Israeli occupation deliberately targeted Palestinian children. In a statistic by the International Defense for Children Movement, Israeli forces have killed 49 Palestinian children since the beginning of the current year 2022, including 32 children in the West Bank and 17 others in the Gaza Strip, while the occupation is holding the bodies. 12 of them are inside refrigerators, to prevent their families from having a final farewell look at them.

Among the killing stories spread by Israel among Palestinian cities, to kidnap young souls, is what the seven-year-old Rayan Yasser Suleiman, from the town of Tuqu’, to the southeast of Bethlehem in the West Bank, was subjected to. His dreams were buried in their cradle, when he stopped His heart was filled with fear after the heavily armed occupation soldiers pursued him on 29 September.

With the departure of Rayan, that child who dreamed of becoming a nurse in his old age, the number of children in his family who were subjected to persecution and raids by the occupation soldiers and searches of their homes has risen to three.

And in the city of Nablus, in the northern West Bank, the child Ghaith Rafiq Yamin (15 years old) was wounded by an Israeli sniper's bullet in the head, in the "Iraq al-Tayyeh" area, east of Nablus, and he immediately rose to the higher comrade.

Upon reaching the Gaza Strip, which has been under Israeli siege since the summer of 2006, the five-year-old Alaa Qaddum left her rosy dreams, bidding farewell to her family, covered in her blood that spilled in the yard of her house, after Israeli helicopters fired missiles at the area in which she lives in the Shujaiya neighborhood, east of the city. Gaza, on the 15th of last August, and on the next day, hundreds of meters away from the place where the child Qaddoum was killed, the occupation missiles killed the two brothers Moamen (five years old) and Ahmed Al-Nairab (11 years old).

According to the statistics of the International Movement for the Defense of Children, the Israeli forces have killed 49 Palestinian children since the beginning of the current year 2022, including 32 children in the West Bank and 17 others in the Gaza Strip, while the occupation is holding the bodies of 12 of them in refrigerators.

Palestinian children who are imprisoned are deprived of psychological and counseling care inside prisons, which exacerbates their psychological, neurological and health problems and deprives them of practicing their childhood and their right to play, freedom and education behind bars.
