Elections in Equatorial Guinea: Teodoro Obiang Nguema largely victorious

Equatoguinean President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, who has already spent 43 years in power, won the November 20 presidential election with more than 94% of the vote.

According to the results read on public television by Faustino Ndong Esono Eyang, Minister of the Interior who is also chairman of the Electoral Commission, the turnout was 98%.

President Obiang Nguema, candidate for a sixth term in a row, won 94.9% of the vote out of just over 413,000 voters.

His main challenger, opponent Andrès Esono Ondo, only got 9,684 votes, or about 4% of the vote.

The opposition without a seat in Parliament

Regarding the legislative elections, the Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea (PDGE) of President Obiang Nguema and its 14 allied parties won all 100 seats in the National Assembly.

Same scenario for the Senate whose 55 seats are also under the control of power.

But since this chamber must have 70 members, the 15 others will be appointed by the President of the Republic according to the Constitution.
