It is a barometer to measure the level of French students.

At each start of the school year, the national assessments, which now concern the classes of CP, CE1 and 6th, make it possible to gauge their level in French and mathematics.

The Ministry of Education has unveiled the figures for the 2022 vintage.

The results of student assessments this year show a drop in results in French in CE1 and 6e, linked to the health crisis, and a widening of inequalities in mathematics on arrival at college, according to the Ministry of Education.

Last year, the results of student assessments at the start of CP, CE1 and 6e showed that the delays observed in French and mathematics after the first confinement of 2020 had been absorbed.

Remember that in 2020, the level had dropped dramatically, due to the closure of schools during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The results in French of CE1 students are down in several areas compared to 2021, in particular in writing words, reading aloud or understanding sentences and texts, as is the level of French of students in 6ᵉ, particularly in writes it.

Reduction of educational inequalities

The average score per student drops from 260.8 points in 2021 to 256.5.

The share of pupils in the low levels goes from 22.4% to 27.1%, while it drops in the high levels (from 36.7% to 33.8%).

The good news concerns educational inequalities: the gaps between REP + students and non-priority education students are narrowing at all levels, especially in CP.

The Ministry of Education sees this as the consequence of the

duplication of classes

introduced five years ago in priority education zones.
