200 stores were damaged by a fire in a market in India

About 200 shops have been damaged by a massive fire that broke out at Bhagirath Palace Market in Chandni Chowk, India, while firefighters continue their efforts to extinguish the blaze for the third day in a row, Indian officials said Saturday.

Officials said 14 fire engines were dispatched to the site in an attempt to control the blaze, according to the Press Trust of India.

A senior police officer said most of the about 200 stores that were destroyed in the wholesale market fire were specialized in selling electronics.

He added that a case was registered against unknown persons, under Article 285 of negligence in dealing with fires or combustible materials, and Article 336 of committing an act that endangers the life and safety of others.
