Sophie Adenot, 40, is one of the elected representatives of the very selective promotion of the European Space Agency, unveiled this Wednesday.

This lieutenant-colonel was already the only helicopter flight test pilot in France, at base 120 in Cazaux on the Arcachon Basin, and she becomes the second French female astronaut, after Claudie Haigneré.

She lives with her family in the town of Gujan-Mestras.

The Gironde air base warmly congratulated the young woman by posting a message "From Pyrenees to space" on its Facebook page.

Sophie Adenot was a pilot in the “Pyrenees” helicopter squadron before joining the General Directorate of Armaments (DGA) at the Cazaux air base.

"It is a source of pride for us to see her join the very selective circle of French astronauts", concludes the air base.
