Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) must have been very upset about the climate activists who had blocked Berlin Airport, otherwise the lawyer would not have thanked the Federal Police for their "quick and decisive action against these criminals".

Because even if there is little doubt about a conviction, the presumption of innocence naturally applies.

With the escalation of the protests, the activists face higher penalties.

There are already reports of dangerous intervention in air traffic, trespassing and property damage.

Airport security is particularly protected under criminal law in Section 315 of the Criminal Code.

Anyone who creates obstacles and thereby endangers the life and limb of people or objects of particular value is punished with imprisonment from six months to ten years.

While an airport is in itself a public building, trespassing is an option because the trespasser does not want activists entering the airport with the aim of blocking it.

In the summer, the district court in Tiergarten sentenced several climate activists to fines for their actions on Berlin's autobahns or - if juvenile criminal law was applied - to community service.

However, there are different assessments in the judiciary, another judge of the district court had acquitted an activist.

In cases where ambulances were blocked, a conviction for negligent bodily harm can also be considered.
