Istanbul.. banning social, cultural and commercial events on Istiklal Tourist Street

The office of the governor of the Turkish city of Istanbul banned "social, cultural and commercial events" on the city's famous tourist Istiklal Street today, Friday, in the wake of a deadly attack on November 13.

This is just one of the many security measures implemented, after the terrorist attack that killed six people and injured 81 others.

The city's governor's office said on its website that exhibitions, cultural events, vendors and street musicians were banned from being present on Istiklal Street to "ensure security" and allow safe tram and pedestrian traffic.

Istiklal Street, which is characterized by the presence of luxury brand stores, restaurants, hotels and museums, is one of the busiest tourist areas and local attractions in Istanbul, the largest city in the country.

The office added that restaurants and shops will also not be allowed to put tables, chairs and panels on the street, which is 1,400 meters long.

Trees and benches were removed in the street days after the attack, which Ankara blames on Kurdish rebels, which the Kurdish groups deny.
