• Three men "very unfavorably known to the services" were arrested on Wednesday in the Nantes region.

  • They are suspected of having committed fifteen burglaries in the homes of very old people, disguised as fake police officers.

Their placement in pre-trial detention was requested.

Three men were brought this Friday afternoon before the Nantes prosecutor's office after a long series of thefts by trickery recently reported in the Loire-Atlantique department.

Aged 55, 34 and 31, these individuals, including a father and son already "very unfavorably known to the services", were arrested on Wednesday in camps for travelers in the Nantes region.

They are suspected of being at the origin of fifteen facts, committed between July and October "in elderly or even very old people", reports this Friday the public prosecutor of Nantes Renaud Gaudeul.

Most of the victims are over 90 years old.

In Nantes, La Turballe, La Baule or Vertou, each time, the same scenario.

Sometimes equipped with “police” caps or armbands, the bogus civil servants also presented a fake card to their victim, before entering their home.

"They reported that there had been a burglary in the neighborhood and asked people to lead them to their values," says Colonel Pascal Péresse, head of the research section of the Nantes gendarmerie.

Cash, jewelry, and even a rifle-type weapon were stolen, for a total damage estimated at 100,000 euros.

It is an armband, forgotten on the spot, which made it possible to go up to the first suspect, followed by a “very heavy work of investigation”.

They face twenty years in prison

The three men, who are contesting the facts of aggravated theft, could be tried under the delayed appearance system, next January.

A sports vehicle, several thousand euros in cash and some jewelry were seized.

The three suspects are recidivism, two of them having already been convicted twenty times.

They face a twenty-year prison sentence.
