The nature rangers have been out and inspected the lands where the wolf has been seen.

- We do not have DNA from droppings or urine, but the track pattern and the animals' behavior show that it is a wolf.

Bad track conditions

Wolves move over large areas and it is difficult to know where the wolf is.

A wandering wolf that has not established a territory can move several miles per day.

- We are waiting for better track conditions.

Right now there is very little snow in the forest and that makes it difficult to follow the wolf.

We also don't know what kind of wolf it is, but we can assume that it is on a migration and then they rarely stay in the same area for any length of time, says Alexander Winiger.

Previous wolf reports

In Norrbotten there have been a number of wolf reports in recent years.

- Last year there were two different individuals moving in the county and two years ago there were four individuals.

Historically, it has always been about single individuals and it is usually here for a shorter period as it is often wandering wolves, says Alexander Winiger.
