After information about a strained staff and patient situation, IVO began an inspection of the emergency room at USÖ in the summer of 2021. The review then moved on to form part of a national inspection of hospital care in the country.

What IVO reviewed at USÖ are risks to patient safety due to a shortage of care places and shortages in staffing within somatic specialist healthcare.

When the investigation is now complete, IVO states that the region does not ensure that the hospital has available care places based on the actual need.

As patients do not always have their needs for supervision, care, medicine and nutrition met, this entails a risk of serious care injuries, according to IVO.

In the national supervision of care with a focus on staffing and care places, decisions have so far been made in close to ten cases, and all of these, including Region Örebro County, have been criticized.
