The two bronze sculptures are just under 40 and 20 centimeters in size - and with an estimate of 1.8 to 2.2 million euros, they surpass the other range of modern and contemporary art in the evening sale at Lempertz on December 2nd: It is at one about the monument design "Projet pour un monument pour Gabriel Péri", in which Alberto Giacometti executed his famous motif of the striding man for the first time in 1946.

The figures – in monumental format – were intended for the Saint-Lazare station forecourt in Paris.

However, the competition decision and implementation were not made.

Ten years later, Marino Marini made the 22 centimeter high bronze of a fallen horse with a rider.

The late work is estimated at 120,000 to 150,000 euros.

Alexej von Jawlensky is represented with six works in the field of 98 lots.

Compared to his "Head" from 1913 from the series of girls' heads, the "Mystic Head" from 1917 is characterized by further abstraction (estimate 300,000 to 400,000 euros each).

The liberation of color from the object can also be observed in Gabriele Münter's 1911 landscape "Houses in the Forest" (300,000/350,000).

Lovis Corinth's lavishly filled "Meissen bowl with tea roses" from 1911 is estimated at 250,000 to 350,000 euros, while Pablo Picasso's chalk drawing "Bouquet de fleurs" from 1946 only combines individual flowers (150,000/160,000).

Jean-Paul Riopelle is leading the range of contemporary art.

His 60 by 73 centimeter canvas "Automne II-Symphonie" was created in 1954 and comes from the same Rhenish private collection that delivered Münter's forest landscape and Jawlensky's mystical head.

Riopelle's radiant color relief is said to bring in 600,000 to 700,000 euros.

Josef Albers' "Becher" from a series of glass works that the artist created at the Dessau Bauhaus from 1925 onwards has a similarly intensive color effect.

The work is the only surviving one with colored overlaid glass using the sandblasting technique developed by the artist;

he left it behind when he emigrated to America in 1933.

Now it is estimated at 300,000 to 400,000 euros.

Together, the modern and contemporary auctions are expected to bring in eleven million euros.
