An earthquake of magnitude 5.6 occurred in Qianjur Regency, West Java, Indonesia at 1:21 pm local time today (21st).



Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency said at least 44 people were killed and dozens were injured in the quake.



The earthquake was such that buildings shook and vibrations were felt even in Jakarta, the capital city, which is about 70 km away from Qianjur in a straight line.



In Jakarta's central business district, which is lined with high-rise buildings, people hurriedly evacuated from the buildings.
