• Health Ayuso asks the doctors to call off the strike in Primary Care as the carriers did: "There are moments that are not to go on strike"

  • Madrid The indefinite strike begins in Madrid Primary Care to which about 5,000 doctors are called

The distance between "a historical follow-up" and "31% in the morning shift" marks the two views on the indefinite strike of Primary Care and Pediatric doctors, which started this Monday in Madrid, with 430 health centers affected in the region.

Although, reading these sentences calmly, the first from

Amyts

, the majority union of doctors, and the second from the

Ministry

, it can be concluded that the conflict in Madrid over Health is still very much alive.

That 31%, considering the minimum services, represents a remarkable follow-up among the

4,240 family doctors and the 720 pediatricians

, as if the agreement on extra-hospital emergencies, reached last week, had not calmed the sector.

At the foot of the consultation, in the

Prosperidad health center

, the opinions are disparate.

Fernando and Sonia

, a young married couple leaving a pediatric appointment with their baby, perfectly exemplify the division of opinion on the health strike.

They affirm that the strike has not affected them.

"They have treated us without a problem, although we have seen a lady making a claim."

With 100% follow-up, two doctors are attending today at this clinic in the Prosperidad neighborhood, while another two have joined the strike and another is on leave.

"

I'm not a big fan of strikes

, in general," he says.

"Me, yes, as a tool to protest," she replies.

"

However, this Galician and this woman from Bilbao are also users of private healthcare.

"When we have had some kind of problem we have gone to private, with which perhaps we are in an advantageous situation," they explain.

"But my experience has always been good here in Madrid," he concludes.

Elisa Pastora and Isabel, an elderly

mother and daughter

, underline the same thing , who have gone to the center's emergency service because the old woman has an ocular effusion.

"When I came to ask for an appointment, the girl from the administration told us that we better come through the ER, because since the doctors are on strike... But

for now it hasn't affected us

. Normally they give us good service, the doctor is charming and attends to my mother with much love".

However, these lifelong neighbors in the neighborhood do not see the protest with a good eye: "We think it is horrible that they have started,

a disaster

", they sentence. "There are older people, there are children, and for pediatricians to go on strike with a sick child is very hard.

I understand that they have too many people, but maybe this was not the way to solve it."

Almost 600 meters away, at the

Ciudad Jardín health center

, the method to alleviate the effects of the strike is the same as that of the neighboring neighborhood: consultations that cannot be postponed

are referred to the emergency service

.

Although, in the morning shift, only one pediatrician of the five doctors in the clinic has ceased her activity.

This is the case of a mother with her daughter, in a hurry to be attended to: "They are going to look at her, but as an emergency, exceptionally, because the girl has a very high fever, but they are on strike, of course."

She was unaware of the start of the strike among family doctors and pediatricians.

"We've all been sick all weekend," she comments with the same bluish circles under her eyes as her daughter.

Resident in Germany for eight years, he says that the difference in public health in both places is "abysmal".

In fact, she admits that

she recently took out private insurance

with Sanitas.

"I have the little girl with recurrent otitis symptoms and, in the end, we have had to go private so that an ENT doctor does not take months. In general, I am not happy. Because of the waiting lists and so on."

Nor is

Baltasar

satisfied with the delay with the specialists and the telematic appointment system.

"With my wife, we have had to call the traumatologist for a while, but a machine answers and they cut off. He has come to claim it, once they have given him another code and we have made an application and now I come to clarify it. We have problems with that appointment, because

the machine is put on, and 'say, say, say', and hangs up

".

Despite this, he is satisfied with the treatment he receives in public health: "They always treat me phenomenally; I think they should be better paid, but I have not had a problem with the strike."

Contrary to

Judith

, who comes with her young daughter with a typical seasonal virus: "I don't understand that they are on strike, the children are the most affected by this," she protests while protecting her daughter from the morning rain.

"They took care of me because the girl had a fever, but for anything else I have to go to the [hospital] emergency room. But everything is full there and it will take me all day."

Encouraged by the success of the mobilization in defense of the Extra-Hospital Centers, which brought tens of thousands of people to the streets on the 13th, and which was followed by an agreement with the

Community of Madrid

, the doctors are now taking their demands to Primary and Pediatric Care.

With this indefinite strike, they claim a maximum of 31 patients per Family and Community Medicine consultation and 21 patients for Pediatrics;

a minimum of 10 minutes per patient

;

a single agenda per nominal doctor and without having to see patients from other agendas;

schedules that allow conciliation and that is one of the main reasons that push Primary Care;

and remuneration improvements that make Primary Care attractive and make it possible to curb both the exodus to other communities and the difficult generational replacement.

At the same time, the conflict in out-of-hospital emergencies still does not seem resolved, despite the fact that the strike was lifted last Thursday.

After four hours of meeting with the

Sectoral Board of Health

- made up of the Ministry and the unions CC.OO., UGT, CSIT Unión Profesional, Satse and Amyts - the majority union

has left the door open to resume the emergency out-of-hospital strike

.

The reason is the "null progress" in the negotiations with the

Ministry of Health

to define the new model, after the basis that was agreed to end the strike.

In fact, it has warned that it will consult the affected professionals and act accordingly.

According to the general secretary of Amyts,

Ángela Hernández

, the negotiation with the Ministry of Health is advancing "very slowly, and it even seems that it is going back."

She laments: "They continue to go very slowly to be able to recover the doctors who resigned and they continue to be

determined to prioritize opening a number of centers instead of prioritizing opening them with the full

and necessary staffing so that they are attractive for doctors to choose to work there."

She has criticized that the meeting only dealt with the provisional assignment of the 49 centers equipped with a nurse, doctor and orderly.
