China News Agency, Bangkok, November 17 (Reporter Liang Xiaohui) On the afternoon of November 17 local time, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Philippine President Marcos in Bangkok, Thailand.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China always views China-Philippines relations from a strategic perspective.

When we talked on the phone in May this year, we reached a series of important consensus on the development of China-Philippines relations in the new era. The two sides identified four key areas of cooperation in agriculture, infrastructure, energy and people-to-people and cultural exchanges.

The two sides should strive to create highlights of cooperation, improve the quality of cooperation, and benefit the two peoples.

China is willing to inherit friendship with the Philippines, continue cooperation, and work together for national development and revitalization, so as to write a new chapter in China-Philippines friendship.

Xi Jinping stressed that China is willing to maintain regular communication with the Philippines and continue to take care of each other's concerns.

The two sides should continue to deepen the docking of the "Belt and Road" initiative with the Philippines' "Build More and Build Well" plan, build the Davao-Samal Bridge project well, discuss the development of "two countries, two parks" cooperation, and strengthen cooperation in clean energy, education, and public health.

China is willing to expand imports of more high-quality agricultural and sideline products from the Philippines.

The two sides should take more practical measures to intensify people-to-people and cultural exchanges and consolidate the public opinion foundation of China-Philippines friendship.

On the South China Sea issue, the two sides should persist in friendly consultations and properly handle differences and disputes.

Both China and the Philippines are developing countries in Asia. They should adhere to strategic independence, adhere to peace, openness, and inclusiveness, grasp the general direction of regional cooperation, work together to resist unilateralism and bullying, jointly maintain fairness and justice, and safeguard regional peace and stability.

Marcos expressed his congratulations on the successful convening of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and President Xi Jinping's re-election as General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. This will not only bring greater stability to China's future development, but also benefit the region and the entire world.

The Philippines and China have a history of friendly exchanges for thousands of years. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the cooperation in various fields between the two countries has been continuously promoted.

China supports and helps the Philippine nation-building and has made important contributions to this end. The mutual trust between the Philippines and China is growing day by day.

The Philippine side looks forward to working with the Chinese side to tap potential, expand cooperation in infrastructure, energy, agriculture, people-to-people and cultural and other fields, and build a more stable and strong bilateral relationship.

I have always maintained that maritime issues should not define the entire Philippines-China relationship, and the two sides can further strengthen communication on this.

The Philippines will continue to adhere to the one-China policy, adhere to the principle of peace, adhere to independent diplomacy, and will not choose sides.

The Philippine side is willing to actively negotiate with the Chinese side to discuss promoting joint development of offshore oil and gas.

Ding Xuexiang, Wang Yi, He Lifeng and others attended the meeting.
