Sales of cars without a license are exploding with 42,000 copies sold last year in Europe, half of which in France alone.

The conditions for the allocation of these small vehicles are quite simple: be 14 years old, have a road safety certificate and the tidy sum of 7,000 euros.

"It's really not complicated!" 

In the parking lot of this high school in Deauville, among the thirty cars parked without a license, there is that of Caroline, 14 years old: “We have the steering wheel, the heating, the warnings. There is no screen. For the pedals, the big one is the brake pedal and the small one is the accelerator pedal. It's really not complicated!"

These are mini electric city cars in the shape of cubes with a maximum speed of 45 km/h.

But they offer a wind of freedom to these young high school students.

“We no longer have to wait for our parents to go out,” explains a student.

“There is no transport from my home to come here”, explains another. 

At least 7,000 euros for a car without a license 

Exit the two wheels, place in the cart, at a dealership in the city, it sells on average two cars without a license per week.

"80% of customers are mainly young people. There is a safe side. You have light, you are on four wheels, you are a little wider, so you are more visible and you are a little less vulnerable than on a two-wheeler", explains Boris Popovic, director of Marie Automobile in Deauville.
