A firefighter and a policeman were accused of having led what the president of the court of Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine) called "a punitive expedition".

The facts took place on July 5 in a camp of 'Romanians' in Antony (Hauts-de-Seine).

The defendants appeared on Wednesday for intentional violence with a weapon, reports Actu Hauts-de-Seine.

They were each sentenced to six months in prison with flexible terms and a ban on carrying a weapon for three years.

Dressed in rangers and fatigues, the two men had burst onto the scene at the wheel of a Jeep.

They were equipped with gas, cartridges and a shotgun.

By arming the latter, they caused panic.

Surrounded, they used gas to disperse the crowd and flee.

Even though the assailants had covered their license plates, the investigators quickly found their trace.

The defendants had acted in retaliation for thefts committed in the space of a collective garden belonging to the police officer.

They held the inhabitants of the camp responsible for it.
