According to the proposal in the Tidö Agreement, residence permits for people in need of protection must be temporary and an investigation must review how the permanent ones that have already been issued can be converted into time-limited ones.

If the proposals were to come into force, it would be a unique measure, says Migration Agency director general Mikael Ribbenvik.

- Yes, it would be the first time in Sweden.

We haven't had that before, he says in SVT's 30 minutes.

Every time a time-limited residence permit expires today, a new examination is made to see if the basis for the permit still exists.

But if you have a permanent residence permit, no new examination is made.

Just over 300,000 people in Sweden today have permanent residence permits, and the Director General of the Swedish Migration Agency understands if they are worried.

- It says that they want to investigate whether they can convert permanent residence permits into temporary ones, so I would have been worried about that.
