Estimates from the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee) have fallen.

The unemployment rate remained almost stable in the third quarter of 2022 at 7.3% of the working population in France (excluding Mayotte) against 7.4% in the second, according to figures published Tuesday by INSEE.

The number of unemployed as defined by the International Labor Office (ILO) reached 2.252 million people, or 17,000 less compared to the previous quarter.

“The unemployment rate has fluctuated between 7.3 and 7.4% since the fourth quarter of 2021, at a level 0.9 points lower than before the health crisis (end of 2019)”, indicates INSEE in its communicated.

Female unemployment rate down slightly

Over the quarter, the youth unemployment rate increased by 0.3 points, to 18.3%, but remained below its level a year earlier (-0.9 points) and its pre-crisis level (- 3.3 points).

On the other hand, the unemployment rate was virtually stable (-0.1 point) over the quarter for 25-49 year olds at 6.5%, and for 50 year olds or over at 5.1%, levels lower than those of the third quarter of 2021.

Over the quarter, the unemployment rate for women fell slightly (-0.2 points), to 7.1%, while that for men was stable, at 7.6%.

Over one year, the unemployment rate for women fell more than that for men (-1.0 point against -0.3 point).
