The state of the economy is bleak and Sweden will enter a recession next year according to the government's forecasts.

According to the women's shelter in Tranås, it can also mean increased problems with violence in close relationships.

- Yes, unfortunately it can be like that, says Malin Hesselblom at the women's hour Helga in Tranås.

Most often abused by a familiar person

According to the police, most victims of crimes in close relationships are women.

But it also happens that women expose men to violence in heterosexual relationships, just as violence occurs in LGBTQ relationships.

It often involves repeated violence over a longer period of time.

- It's about these people wanting control and power, says Malin Hesselblom.

Last year, 38,700 cases of assault were reported in Sweden where the victim was familiar with the perpetrator.

With regard to reported crimes of assault against women, the crime was committed by an acquaintance in 81 percent of the cases.

The corresponding figure for adult men was 45 percent.

According to the Crime Prevention Council, Brå, 19 cases of fatal violence were found last year where the victim and perpetrator were in a couple relationship.

15 of them were women.
