• Pablo Iglesias assures that "with five aunts like Isa Serra we would see the entire Madrid Municipal Police run like chickens"

  • Controversy Madrid calls "infamy" the "intolerable" words of Pablo Iglesias against the municipal police and asks him to retract

The Court of First Instance Number 2 of Madrid has summoned the former Vice President of the Government Pablo Iglesias to a conciliation act on November 30 for

some statements he made about the Madrid Municipal Police.

Legal sources have confirmed to Europa Press that Judge Cristina Fernández Gil has already set the date for the conciliation act demanded by the

Union of the Madrid Municipal Police (UPM)

as a prerequisite to be able to file a lawsuit for an alleged crime of serious injuries to the local body.

It was on October 19 when the Security and Emergencies delegate of the Madrid City Council, Inmaculada Sanz, announced in the branch commission that the Madrid Municipal Police, through the Judicial Coordination Unit,

had gone to court to " defend the dignity" of the agents against the former leader of Podemos.

The union took legal action against Iglesias for the statements he made on his podcast on September 28.

"With five aunts like (the leader of Podemos) Isa Serra on horseback, we would see the entire Madrid Municipal Police run. It would also be of no use to them.

Isa would bring me the scalps of all of them and (Pablo) Echenique and I would burn them in a bonfire with Arnaldo Otegi in Arralde

", he affirmed.

Iglesias, after the stir that he caused, said that it was an irony.

"You have to take humor with a sense of humor, folks. I suspect his law firm will explain it to you."

Likewise, he invited the agents to intervene in his program to "explain the inexplicable."

The regional deputy and leader of Podemos in the Community of Madrid,

Isa Serra, was sentenced to 19 months in prison for a crime of attack,

after considering her responsible for having hurled insults, pushed and thrown objects at police officers Municipal during an eviction in Lavapiés in 2014.

UPM asks to retract

The legal sources consulted have specified to this news agency that the police union has demanded that the former Vice President of the Government retract his statements and apologize.

In the event that Iglesias decides not to reconcile with the Union of the Municipal Police of Madrid

, the union may proceed against the former leader of Podemos for an alleged crime of libel.

As reported by the union, from UPM they have urged the Madrid City Council to appear in the case as a private prosecution in defense of the honor of all the members of the Madrid Municipal Police Corps.

Tomás González, a member of the union's legal cabinet, told EFE that UPM "

does not ask for financial compensation" from Iglesias,

since it could make it difficult to reach an agreement and his "only" intention is for him to withdraw.

It should be remembered that for his statements Iglesias was rejected by the Plenary Session of the Madrid City Council with the votes in favor of PP, Ciudadanos and Vox.

The Municipal Police Professional Collective (CPPM

), the majority union in the body, filed a complaint against Iglesias for an alleged crime of serious libel with the aggravating circumstance of publicity, since the statements were broadcast in a media outlet and reproduced by others.

The Associated Local Police union also "proceeded to present a complaint to Mr. Pablo Iglesias Turrión for the insults and accusations he has made against the Madrid Municipal Police."

"They are unfortunate and even more so when they come from a person who has held public office. For all these reasons, they have been transferred to the judicial authorities," according to PLA.

For its part, the Unified Municipal Police Association (APMU) decided, after studying the words of Pablo Iglesias, not to take legal action against the former vice president, considering that they

probably would not have a legal course.
