Sentenced for having kept a lion cub at his home, in Seine-Saint-Denis

Prosecuted for "acquisition, possession and unauthorized transport of a protected non-domestic species", a man was sentenced on Monday by the Bobigny Criminal Court (Seine-Saint-Denis).

He was sentenced to eight months in prison, four of which were suspended, reports

Nearly 15,000 euros in damages

At the end of 2017, he illegally detained a lion cub in an apartment in Noisy-le-Sec.

The animal, which was in a cage, had been taken care of by the association 30 million friends, to whom the defendant will have to pay 4,500 euros in damages.

Five other animal protection associations which had instituted civil proceedings will receive 2,000 euros.

The individual was remanded in custody after his arrest.

He was therefore not imprisoned after his appearance.

If he does not respect his sentence and does not pay the 90 day fines set at 15 euros, he will have to return to prison.
