The last queen of France deserved a series in her name, it's now done thanks to this very beautiful Canal + creation by Deborah Davis.

What does this new biopic tell about Queen Marie-Antoinette?

Go behind the scenes of the Palace of Versailles

This original series, made up of 8 episodes, takes the viewer to the heart of the most famous castle in France and alongside the last queen who lived there.

We discover a still-adolescent Marie-Antoinette, freshly arrived from her native Austria.

In order not to fuel the attacks against her, the young queen will have to adapt to this new world and quickly establish a relationship with her husband, King Louis XVI.

She will also need courage to face her rival Madame du Barry, ready to do anything to make her leave the Court.

The series was filmed in the very heart of the Palace of Versailles: we recognize the fabulous gardens, the royal opera and especially the famous hall of mirrors.

The director even had the right to visit the private apartments of the castle, which were then reconstituted in the studio in Bry-sur-Marne, in order to best reflect the reality of daily life at the Court.

Marie-Antoinette, avant-garde icon

Director Deborah Davis offers us her broad knowledge of historical facts in this highly successful new biopic.

Known in particular for "La Favorite", widely rewarded at the Oscars, she chooses in this new creation to highlight young actors: we meet the sparkling Emilia Schüle who portrays a modern and touching Marie-Antoinette.

At his side, Louis Cunningham, a young actor himself from royal blood, to embody the young Louis XVI.

Far from the vision of the frivolous and superficial queen found in Sofia Coppola, Deborah Davis chooses here to show her as a candid and endearing woman: it is little by little and thanks to a natural charisma that she will become one of the greatest icons in the history of France.

This new adaptation of the life of Marie-Antoinette should be spread over 3 seasons, thus following the course of her disastrous reign.

Do not miss the first two episodes available since October 31 on the encrypted channel.
