In Spain, this is good news in the fight against global warming: the Danish carrier Maersk, which provides around 20% of maritime transport of goods, has undertaken to invest 10 billion euros to produce from here. 2030 two million tonnes of green methanol, i.e. 10% of its needs and of which part of the production in Spain.

Alongside the general delegate of Maersk, Pedro Sanchez was all smiles.

He, who calls himself a champion in the fight against the climate and energy crisis, puffed out his chest by explaining that this project should allow the creation of 5,000 direct jobs, and 85,000 indirectly.

The Danish giant has indeed undertaken to build two of its five production centers in Spain.

Specifically in Galicia, in Ferrol, and in Andalusia, near Huelva.

These same centers will themselves be supplied with energy by some 80 wind and solar farms.

Green methanol, a low-emission fuel

It is indeed a question of producing green methanol.

This fuel, which emits very few emissions into the atmosphere, is obtained from carbon dioxide and green hydrogen, that is, a type of hydrogen itself obtained from natural resources. sustainable and non-fossil.

By 2024, around 20 Maersk transporters could already be operating thanks to this green methanol made in Spain.

For Madrid, this is double good news, two weeks after signing an agreement with France to build an underwater conduit between Barcelona and Marseille to transport green hydrogen.
