King

Mohamed VI

of Morocco invites the president of

Algeria,

Abdelmajid Tebboune, to visit Rabat to "maintain a dialogue" on bilateral relations,

broken for a year

, as assured in Algiers to a group of European media, the Foreign Minister Naser Burita.

"His Majesty has instructed us to tell the Algerian authorities that there is an open invitation to His Excellency the President (of Algeria) to come to Morocco and have a dialogue with the necessary preparations to guarantee its success," Burita explained.

The Moroccan king was formally invited to the

summit of the Arab League

, which is being held on November 1 and 2 in the Algerian capital, which he finally decided not to attend because, Burita assured, "although there are provisions made for a bilateral meeting at the highest level", they did not receive "confirmation regarding this".

"We have been here for three days (in Algiers, since Saturday) and we have addressed each other several times through the channels of the (Arab League) summit without provisions being made for a bilateral meeting at the highest level" , he indicated.

In response to previous statements by the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ramtam Lamarra, to receive the president in the honors room of the airport, like the rest of the heads of state who arrived in the capital these days, Burita considered the proposal "unusual, view the nature of the relationship.

"Given the scope and importance of this meeting, it cannot be improvised in a hall of honors at the airport, it needs preparation and commitment on both sides to guarantee its success," he reproached.

The Moroccan leader insisted that Algeria, as the host country, had had the opportunity to pass on the invitation to a bilateral meeting, both "through the services of the summit or directly to the (Moroccan) delegation that was on the ground."

The Moroccan representative stressed that since the rupture of diplomatic relations in August 2021, the monarch has reached out to Algiers in three of his speeches: "Unfortunately, we have not received any response to these real initiatives of bilateral dialogue," he said.

"The invitation is real, so that what could not be in Algiers, due to the lack of communication channels, for example, or for other reasons, we can bring it to fruition, if Algiers wishes, through this invitation of the king," said Burita.
