"Restore the park to its previous condition with dust and artwork by Kenneth Sundh" - that's what the e-proposal sounds like, which attracted just over 160 positive votes.

It is not the first time there have been e-suggestions about the dam in Vilhelminaparken.

Already when a unanimous municipal board decided in November 2018 that it should be dug again, an e-proposal came to preserve the dam.

The protests caused the Left Party to swing and propose that the dam should remain, but a majority in the municipal board stood by previous decisions.

Lots of bird poop

That the dam even ended up on the politicians' table began with an anonymous letter to the municipality regarding order in the park.

Among other things, about a hundred ducks stayed at the pond, which meant a lot of bird poo.

Fagerstabon Hanna Haapala, who has now voted for the dam to be restored, remembers that it was dirty.

- But once they took care of the pond, it was nice.

If you choose to take it back, I assume that you take care of it then, she says.

Found action suggestions

NVK and the former education and leisure administration were tasked with developing proposals for measures to increase comfort and safety in the park.

Among other things, it was proposed to clean up the pond, use fresh water instead and replace the bottom cloth to make it easier to clean it regularly.

Together, the measures would cost SEK 500,000.

But the politicians felt they could get more for the money and in September 2019 the dam was dug up again and replaced with grass.

Six months later, the municipal board set aside SEK 500,000 for other measures in the park, including the paved surface for food trucks that was in place in April 2020.
