The economic crisis has forced the French to closely monitor their spending.

In the face of inflation, some have given up eating out, forced to find other low-cost alternatives.

And in this critical juncture, many have adopted... the sandwich.

With the inflationary context, many of you obviously prefer quick lunches: +15.5% in sales of sandwiches since the start of the year, according to the results of a study conducted by the company Iri.

In a hurry, Pauline leaves the Franprix, a triangle sandwich in her hands.

She joins her colleagues from the real estate agency.

For several months, she has been doubling her vigilance regarding her living expenses.

The reason ?

Galloping inflation.

"I had it for less than 3 euros," she says at the microphone of Europe 1.

"This year, I got used to it. Unfortunately, with all these prices going up, I'm buying a sandwich rather than eating out. Having a meal delivered or eating at the brasserie would have cost me 15 euros or 20 euros a dish, I think. On the other hand, when I'm teleworking, I prepare to eat directly so I don't buy industrial and prepared meals."

An express meal on the way to the metro

For Pauline, the sandwich is a saving machine.

But for others, it mainly helps to save time.

François passed by in a breeze in a bakery in the 15th arrondissement of the capital.

"I don't have time for lunch and I must be at the other end of Paris in an hour."

For this man, impossible to prepare a meal at home.

"Family life allows it more. I'm the father of a little baby, so I don't have the time anymore."

François barely has time to bite into the bread and rush into the nearest metro station.
