  It is reported that the Federation of Education has been conducting relevant surveys since 2006 to understand the celebration activities held in Hong Kong schools during the National Day and teachers' views on national education.

In order to follow up on the situation in 2022, the Association will issue a questionnaire to all schools in Hong Kong in early October.

The survey found that more than 90% of teachers said that the school held a "National Day Flag Raising Ceremony".

  The survey also found that nearly 30% of the teachers surveyed believed that holding National Day activities can significantly enhance students' sense of belonging to the country, and 50% said that it was slightly enhanced, and 80% of the two combined, which is also a new high in similar surveys.

Compared with the past two years, the school held more activities to celebrate the National Day this year, and the proportion of various National Day activities has increased, reflecting that the school's celebration of National Day activities has become more diversified, and it is recognized that holding National Day activities can help cultivate students' sense of the country.

  In terms of national conditions education, most of the national conditions education activities held by schools have increased compared with last year.

More than 60% of the teachers interviewed said that their school "held national education activities on specific days" and "through the class teacher's class".

More than 55% of the respondents said that the school "held display board exhibitions in the school", an increase of 10% compared with last year; 55% said that "combining national conditions with subject teaching".

Nearly 80% of teachers believe that "the national flag, national anthem, national emblem and flag-raising ceremony" should be included in national education, which continues to be the subject that most teachers think must be included in national education.

At the same time, more than 65% of teachers said that they should teach "national security education", an increase of more than 20% compared with 2020.

  In addition, the survey found that about 40% of the schools have opened the post of National Education Coordinator, and 10% of the schools said that they will open the post of National Education Coordinator, and the two together account for nearly 50%.

Overall, after the implementation of the National Security Law in Hong Kong, more than 75% of the respondents believed that Hong Kong schools paid more attention to the "one country, two systems" education than before.

  The Federation of Education said that the policy address just announced by the SAR government has launched a number of measures to promote national education, including providing funding to support kindergartens to hold school-based national education activities, and taking the lead in implementing joint-school national education activities in government schools, which reflects the SAR government's commitment to promoting national education.   In order to improve the effectiveness of patriotic education, the Federation of Education expects to fully cooperate with the Education Bureau of the SAR Government in the future to offer more training courses that meet the needs of national education coordinators and teachers through the Patriotic Education Support Center.

In addition, it is hoped that the Education Bureau of the SAR Government will allocate more resources to produce relevant teaching materials, especially multimedia teaching materials, so as to enhance students’ motivation and sense of engagement in learning related topics, and provide regular special funds for all primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong every year, so that schools can develop diversified patriotic education learning activities to enhance students' understanding of national conditions.
