The day after his appointment as head of the Conservatives

to succeed the short-lived Liz Truss as Prime Minister

, Rishi Sunak presented a unity government on Tuesday.

He attempted to represent the full spectrum of the Conservative Party.

First, Therese Coffey and James Cleverly, followers of Liz Truss, remain in government, respectively in the Environment and Foreign Affairs.

Jeremy Hunt, called in as reinforcements by the former Prime Minister after the failure of his economic measures, also retains his post in Finance.

Several Boris Johnson supporters, such as Nadhim Zahawi, also received morocco leathers.

The new Prime Minister has also placed allies at his side, says our correspondent in London,

Émeline Vin

.

And even former colleagues in the Johnson government.

Dominic Raab was thus appointed Minister of Justice and Deputy Prime Minister, positions he had held under Boris Johnson.

Former Minister of Transport, Grant Shapps was propelled to Business.

The return of the very right-wing Suella Braverman to the Interior Ministry is however a surprise.

She had resigned last Wednesday after sending confidential documents with her personal email.

Another surprise was the lack of promotion for Penny Mordaunt, whose abandonment allowed Rishi Sunak to become prime minister without an election.

She, who was hoping for a sovereign post, ultimately remains president of the group in Westminster.

Rishi Sunak promises to '

fix

 '

Liz Truss' '

mistakes '

The 42-year-old ex-banker and finance minister entered Downing Street barely five days after

the announcement of the resignation of Liz Truss

, in power for only 49 days, yet another twist in a country plagued by severe economic and political turbulence.

“

I will unite our country not with words, but with deeds

,” he assured on the steps of his official residence, after being officially appointed Prime Minister.

Rishi Sunak has promised to "

fix

 " the "

mistakes

 " made under Liz Truss.

I will put economic stability and confidence at the heart of this government's agenda

The new Prime Minister, the first from a former British colony and the youngest since the 19th century, takes the reins of a country facing a serious economic and social crisis.

Inflation exceeds 10%.

The risk of a recession hovers.

Strikes are multiplying in the face of the fall in purchasing power.

Forced to leave after the storm caused by her massive tax cut plan, Liz Truss preceded Rishi Sunak to Buckingham Palace on Tuesday to present her resignation to the king, after a record short term.

She wished "

every

possible success" to her successor, "

for the good of our country

", and reaffirmed her plea for audacity in power.
