On October 20, the Marseille public prosecutor's office indicted and remanded a couple in connection with an investigation into the illegal exploitation of public works and building waste in Allauch and Peypin, two towns close to the Marseille city.

“The couple collected construction waste from Bouches-du-Rhône and even beyond, including major economic operators, writes the prosecution in a press release.

During the investigation, despite multiple formal notices from the prefectural authority, the activities of bringing waste to the sites had persisted to the point of reaching several tens of thousands of m3.

The Peypin site, surrounded by forest, had even caught fire, requiring the intervention of firefighters for several days to prevent its extension and resumptions.

The couple faces a three-year prison sentence and a fine of 1.5 million euros.
