China News Service, October 23. According to the WeChat public account of the Chinese Embassy in Spain, recently, the Chinese Embassy in Spain has been continuously receiving help from international students who have encountered telecom fraud.

In order to prevent such things from happening again, we remind international students and their families in the West to be vigilant and beware of being deceived.

  Please do the following:

1. Track and understand the tricks and methods of telecom fraud

Overseas fraudsters often pretend to be domestic public prosecutors and law officers to deceive trust, claiming that the victims are suspected of participating in "transnational money laundering cases", "international financial fraud cases", "major economic fraud cases" and other cases, coaxing, threatening or even brainwashing the victims to transfer funds to "banks". "Supervision Account", "Police Account" and other "safety accounts" to pay security deposits and bail money.

In addition, fraudsters often use number changing software to impersonate the staff of Chinese embassies and consulates abroad, falsely claiming to inform international students to pick up packages or official documents at the embassies, transfer the call to the so-called Interpol Center or domestic public security organs, call for transfer and remittance, Ask the receiver to call back any phone numbers for further contact, etc.

2. Strengthen awareness of prevention and memorize anti-fraud methods

  1. There are many kinds of telephone fraud, and it is correct not to transfer money.

No matter what the reasons are for scam calls, the ultimate purpose is to seek money.

When you receive a strange call, you must first be vigilant, especially when the other party persuades or even threatens to transfer money, you should hang up the phone decisively without entanglement.

Remember to firmly adhere to the bottom line principle of "no transfer" to avoid economic losses.

  2. Do not trust unfamiliar calls, and keep personal information confidential.

When you receive a suspected fraudulent phone call or text message, you can call the embassy's 24-hour consular protection and assistance phone (0034-699089086) for verification. Do not disclose personal information easily and inform your family members of the situation as soon as possible.

  3. Learn more about anti-fraud knowledge, and call the police immediately without hesitation.

It is recommended to download the National Anti-Fraud Center APP (with the functions of reporting cases and incoming calls) to learn fraud prevention knowledge and improve prevention awareness.

If you are unfortunately deceived, you should notify the bank where your account is located as soon as possible, request to freeze the transfer and remittance, and report the case to the Spanish police and domestic public security organs in a timely manner, so as to recover the economic losses as much as possible.

If you are unable to report the case directly to the domestic public security organ, you can report the case to the local police station where your household registration is located through your close relatives in China, and ask for help from the Anti-Telecom Network Fraud Center where the case was reported.
