Power cut to Ukrainian capital after Russian strikes

The Ukrainian electricity operator "Ukrinyergo" cut off the power supply to Kyiv on Sunday in order to "stabilize" electricity supplies after repeated Russian strikes on energy facilities in Ukraine, a private company said.

"On October 23, a power cut took place to stabilize supplies in Kyiv in order to avoid accidents," Ukrainian private electricity supplier DTEK said.

The company indicated in a statement on its website that the outage would not last more than four hours, but it also did not rule out its continuation for a longer period "due to the extent of the damage."

She again called on residents to conserve electricity, and businesses to reduce the use of lighting in outdoor spaces.

And the Ukrainian presidency announced Saturday that more than one million homes in Ukraine were without electricity after Russian strikes targeted energy facilities.

About ten days ago, Russia began to intensify its strikes on the Ukrainian electricity grid, destroying at least a third of its capacity before winter.
