At the Samegården in Kiruna, the Sami Parliament held its second meeting in a row with the country's Sami villages on Thursday.

This time, representatives from the northern region's Sami villages had gathered to discuss the future organization of the villages.

A total of four meetings will be held across Sápmi.

- We will work to get a number of the Sami villages behind the proposal, and in that case it is extremely important to get all the views from the Sami villages, says Lars-Ove Sjaan, the Sami Parliament's head of reindeer husbandry, environment & society.

The document must be sent to the Renmarkskommittee

Together with the Sami Parliament, the Sami villages must discuss the purpose of the Sami village, how the Sami village uses land and water and its membership rules.

The Sami Parliament has received this task from the government, in connection with the appointment of the Reindeer Committee whose task is to make proposals for a new reindeer husbandry law.

The basis for the Sámi Parliament and the discussions of the Sámi villages must go to the Renmarkskommittee.

- After all, this is a basis that the main investigation can relate to however they want.

We don't know if they think it's important or unimportant, a good suggestion or a bad one.

We don't have any idea about that, says Lars-Ove Sjaan.

The proposal must be supported by most Sami villages

The investigation must be completed on 31 August 2023.

In order for it to become a reality, the majority of Sweden's 51 Sami villages must then support the inquiry's proposal, according to the government's directive.

Ingemar Blind, Girja's Sami village, participated in the discussion meeting with the Sami Parliament on Thursday.

He states that this is something they discussed within the group.

- If not all Sami villages support the inquiry, then the inquiry's proposal must be dropped.

But how do we know that it is really so, no one has been able to prove that, says Blind.
