We knew the Maginot line, there is now the Wagner line.

The paramilitary group of the same name began construction of a fortified line of defense in the Lugansk region of eastern Ukraine, annexed by Moscow in September.

"A complex of fortifications is being built on the contact line," group boss Yevgeny Prigozhin said on social media on Wednesday.

According to this businessman close to the Kremlin, "it is a multi-level defense", but he did not give details on the length of this "Wagner line", nor on its exact location or the time the work might take.

Prigozhin, however, felt that this line of defense should not be "necessary" against the Ukrainian army, "the mere presence of Wagner units on the front line is already an impregnable wall" according to him.

Evguéni Prigojine founded the paramilitary group Wagner in 2014 to fight in Ukraine and has recognized its presence in particular in Africa, the Middle East and Latin America.

This group has been suspected for years of carrying out the base works of the Kremlin in various theaters of operations, which Moscow has always denied.

Prigozhin was for a time one of the suppliers of the Kremlin kitchens, which earned him the nickname "Putin's cook".
