  According to Cameroon's National Radio and Television, the head of the Far North Region, Miguiawa Bakari, informed at an epidemic meeting held in Maroua, the capital of the region, that as of the 17th, a total of 113 suspected cases of cholera had been reported in the Far North Region; as of the 18th , at least 10 people have died.

  Bakari blamed poor local hygiene conditions for the outbreak.

He called on all parties to take action and raise public awareness of prevention.

  Cameroon has experienced frequent cholera outbreaks in recent years.

A cholera outbreak broke out in the southwest, coastal, southern and extreme northern regions in early January this year, killing at least 34 people and infecting more than 1,000.

Another cholera outbreak occurred in the Southwest Region in March, killing about 44 people and infecting more than 1,700.

  Cholera is an acute intestinal infectious disease caused by Vibrio cholerae. It is mainly transmitted through unclean water and food. Patients often experience symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration and high fever. Severe and delayed treatment can lead to death.
