A local official in the Syrian province of Homs was killed when an explosive device exploded in his car.

A security source in Homs told the German News Agency (dpa): "This morning, Monday morning, the head of Talbiseh city council in the northern countryside of Homs, Ahmed Hamad, was killed by an explosive device that targeted his car."

The source added that "the term of Hamad's term to head the Talbiseh city council would have expired within the next two days."

The security source accused "terrorist cells of being behind the assassination of the head of Talbiseh city council."

The head of a town council in Daraa province, southern Syria, was shot dead by gunmen a few days ago.
