Today is the day of the total reopening also for Japan.

For the first time in two and a half years since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, Japan is lifting border restrictions. 

From today the limit of 50 thousand arrivals per day will be abolished

and individual tourists will be able to visit the land of the Rising Sun even if they do not join an organized tour.   

A visa program for visitors from 68 countries around the world

, including Italy,

has also been reinstated

and the airports have already absorbed directives to accommodate the return of foreign tourists - who will still have to show proof that they have taken the third dose of the vaccine, or submit a negative molecular test result within 72 hours of departure. 

Tokyo had decided on severe restrictions on entry for foreign citizens who do not have a residence permit, starting in February 2020, in the aftermath of the first reported cases of Coronavirus in the province of Hubei in China. 

Before the health emergency,

in 2019 Japan had welcomed a record number of 31.9 million tourists from abroad

, and estimated the arrival of 40 million visitors in 2020, the year of the Olympics subsequently postponed to the summer of 202. The executive is also aiming at a gradual recovery in consumer spending that also involves the most remote prefectures, with the simultaneous launch of the "National Travel Discount", capable of guaranteeing discounts on hotels throughout the country, meals and even local shopping.

The plan was scheduled for July but has been postponed due to the resurgence of coronavirus infections in the summer.
