It is important that the companies that sell these products really know that they are safe, says Barbro Kollander, chemist at the Swedish Food Agency, who participates in research projects nationally and internationally that concern algae and seaweed.

Groups that may be extra exposed to the risks of eating seaweed are children, pregnant women and people with iodine deficiency.
