It's an easy victory is no surprise for Jean-Noël Barrot, vice-president of the Modem.

The Minister Delegate in charge of the Digital Transition was re-elected on Sunday with 71.67% of the votes in the second round of the partial legislative election in the 2nd district of Yvelines, convened after the resignation in August of his deputy.

Jean-Noël Barrot's opponent, candidate Nupes Maïté Carrive-Bedouani, won 28.33% of the vote.

This is a significant drop from his score of 35.73% in the second round last June when Jean-Noël Barrot gained nearly 7 points in a few months.

In this constituency, which includes Versailles-Sud, Vélizy-Villacoublay and Chevreuse, turnout was very low on Sunday: only 22.17% of voters turned out, compared to 55% last June.

The government rather than the Assembly

Entering the National Assembly in 2017, Jean-Noël Barrot was re-elected in June with 64.27% of the vote in the second round, almost six points better than five years earlier.

Appointed to the government as Minister Delegate for the Digital Transition and Telecommunications, he gave up his seat to his alternate Anne Grignon on August 4.

But she announced her resignation on August 12.

An appeal had been lodged against his election by one of his political adversaries, on the basis of the Electoral Code which prohibits a “replacement of a member of a parliamentary assembly” from standing as a substitute for a deputy.

Anne Grignon was the candidate in second position on the LREM list during the senatorial elections of September 2017 in the Yvelines.

This list having won only one seat, she would have replaced her elected running mate in the event of resignation or death.

The minister took this time for substitute Anne Bergantz, elected municipal in Lévis-Saint-Nom.

It is the latter who will sit at the Palais-Bourbon, Jean-Noël Barrot remaining in government.
