A 62-year-old man was airlifted in serious condition to hospital in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) after being shot in Vinsobres (Drôme) on Sunday morning.

The victim was picking mushrooms when she was hit by a shot, which would have been fired by a hunter, reports France Bleu Drôme Ardèche.

The 55-year-old president of the hunting society presented himself to the gendarmes, said the public prosecutor of Valencia.

The 50-year-old said he was behind the shooting.

According to the Federation of hunters in the department, he would have used his rifle to defend himself while a wild boar charged him in the middle of the forest.

The stray bullet hypothesis

The mushroom picker would therefore have been hit by a stray bullet.

He was considered in absolute emergency at the time of his medical treatment.

The hunter was taken into custody.

The examinations carried out showed that he had consumed neither alcohol nor narcotics.
