For the second day in a row, the Israeli occupation forces continue to besiege tens of thousands of Palestinians in a number of towns in East Jerusalem, with the closure of the checkpoint at the entrance to Shuafat camp.

The Israeli police say that they are continuing to search for a Palestinian suspected of shooting at members of the Israeli army at a military checkpoint at the entrance to the Shuafat refugee camp (north of occupied Jerusalem).

The operation resulted in the killing of a female soldier and the injury of two Israeli security personnel, in conjunction with the death of 4 Palestinians in West Bank cities within 24 hours last Saturday evening.

Two days ago, the Israeli police closed the roads leading to the Shuafat refugee camp and the neighboring Palestinian neighborhoods of Anata, Dahiyat al-Salam, Ras Khamis and Ras Shehadeh.

Eyewitnesses said that "the Israeli police prevented entry or exit from these areas, and mobilized its forces to search for the perpetrator of the operation, in addition to the fact that "schools in these neighborhoods closed their doors."

The occupation army uses helicopters that hover over Palestinian neighborhoods, and it was reported that Israel arrested 15 Palestinians in Jerusalem.

The occupation authorities said that they arrested 4 people suspected of involvement in the shooting operation at Shuafat checkpoint (French)

Dozens of cars of Palestinians were seen at the entrances to closed neighborhoods, who were unable to return to their homes.

During the past two days, volunteers have distributed food and water to the stranded, while sporadic clashes erupt inside neighborhoods between stone-throwing Palestinians and Israeli police forces firing tear gas and sound bombs.

On Sunday evening, the Israeli police announced in a written statement, "the arrest of 4 people suspected of involvement in the shooting, and their detention was extended for 8 days pending investigation."

Adding that it continues to chase the perpetrator of the shooting, with the participation of large forces of the police, border guards, the General Security Service (Shin Bet) and the Israeli army, supported by a helicopter and special forces.
