Arrested for posting a song in support of the protests, Iranian pop singer Shervin Hajipour appeared in a video on Sunday for the first time since his release.

His piece entitled "Baraye" ("For" or "Because of" in Persian), compiling tweets on the protesters' demands, had reached nearly 40 million views on Instagram before being deleted.

Released on bail on Tuesday, Hajipour, 25, said on Sunday that he "lives in Iran" and wants to "stay there and sing".

“If I want to say something, or issue criticism, I would like to do it here,” he added in a video posted on Instagram.

“It is clear that I created this work to express my sympathy to people who were critical of the situation of society.
