Joint Chiefs of Staff said that North Korea detected two short-range ballistic missiles fired from the Muncheon area in Gangwon Province into the East Sea from 0:48 to 1:58 this morning.



The flight range was 350 kilometers, the altitude was about 90 kilometers, and the speed was detected as Mach 5.



Immediately after launch, the Japanese Ministry of Defense mentioned the possibility of an SLBM, but our military is analyzing detailed specifications, focusing on the possibility of a super-large multiple rocket launcher.



The launch took place one day before the 77th anniversary of the founding of the Labor Party.



North Korea has been conducting armed demonstrations by firing missiles one after another, starting with the South Korea-U.S. joint exercise, but this is the first time this year that it has launched such a provocation early in the morning.



South Korea and the United States fired two A-TaKims in response to North Korea's mid-range ballistic missile launch early on the morning of the 5th.



The National Security Office announced that it immediately reported the matter to President Yoon Seok-yeol and held a standing committee of the National Security Council presided over by Kim Seong-han, head of the National Security Office.



The Standing Committee strongly condemned North Korea's actions, confirmed the military's readiness posture, and decided to further strengthen deterrence and combined defense posture against North Korea through joint ROK-U.S. joint exercises and South Korea-U.S.-Japan security cooperation.
